Stanley William Hayter was a printer and print historian of a generation after Carl Zigrosser. Their correspondence concerns exhibitions, Hayter's own work, and technical aspects of printing. Hayter was particularly interested in American artists using unusual and innovative printing techniques. Carl Zigrosser assisted him with his application to the Guggenheim Foundation. After World War II, Hayter re-established Atelier 17, his innovative Paris studio, and Zigrosser wrote publicity statements supporting both the Atelier, Hayter's work in prints, and his book New Ways of Gravure. The two disagreed over the value and position of the Print Council of America. There is a quantity of printed matter about Hayter.
